Historic Peninsula Park Neighborhood

Portland’s City Beautiful Crown Jewel

Peninsula Park (1909) was Portland’s first public Rose Garden and is the crown jewel of the city’s park system with gardens and pavilions designed in the City Beautiful tradition of landscape architecture.

The neighborhood is also the site of Jefferson High School (1908), North Portland Public Library (1913), and the now vacant Mt Hood Masonic Temple (1923).

We’ll start and end the tour at the unique McMenamin’s Chapel Pub (1932) that was both a wedding chapel and funeral home! (pictured above) Optional post tour gathering for beverage and conversation.
