Historic Peacock Lane – NEW!
November 25, 2017, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
The annual display of Christmas lights along the four blocks of Peacock Lane in SE Portland is a must-see event for many city residents. The 33 houses in the neighborhood were built by a local developer between 1924 and 1928 in a nostalgic “English Cottage” style that was very popular in Portland in the 1920s. Recently, the cohesive neighborhood was threatened with out of scale and unsympathetic infill.
Earlier this month the entire four block street was listed on the National Register of Historic Places; an honorary designation that will provide some protection from incompatible new construction. Let’s take a look at the new district and talk about the pros and cons of National Register designation.
This is an easy urban walk of less that 20 blocks. Dress for the weather!
