Historic Linnton Walking Tour/Hike
October 11, 2019, 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Like many communities situated on the Willamette or Columbia River in the mid-1800s, the founders of Linnton had visions of grandeur, hoping to be the next San Francisco of the northwest. By the 1890s Linnton was a lumber era industrial site with a growing Main Street featuring a typical mix of service and retail businesses. Annexed into Portland in 1915, little remains of “historic downtown Linnton” because of highway widening in the 1960s. However, there remains a small hamlet of residences and a few buildings dating from the early 20th century.
We’ll take a short (but steep!) walk up to look at some of the homes and enjoy a good view or two of the Willamette river to the east. We have a short but rather strenuous walk up and down the staircases, so be prepared with good footwear! (Depending upon weather and interest, we may extend the walk with a hike up into Forest Park)
This tour starts and ends at the Decoy restaurant and tavern (see map).
Linnton is served by Trimet bus #16. (Bring bus fare for the ride back to Linnton if we venture into Forest Park)
Fee for this narrated walk is $15. You may pay by check, cash or credit card at the start of the tour. You may also use PayPal by following this link: http://bit.ly/22q0waD
