Historic Willamette Heights Walking Tour
November 14, 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Willamette Heights is a classic Portland early 20th century “streetcar neighborhood” situated in the far northwest corner of the city. This prestigious, out-of-the way residential enclave owes its growth to clever real estate developers who exploited the proximity of the 1905 Lewis and Clark Exposition located just below. We’ll see some fine Arts and Crafts homes, designed by the city’s leading architects.
The tour starts with a look back at the 1905 World’s Fair with brief stops a historic sites from that watershed event. The Lewis and Clark Expo ignited a housing boom in Portland that lasted for nearly 10 years. On our return we’ll cross over the historic Balch Gulch Bridge (1905) which has recently been preserved and updated.
Be prepared for a rather strenuous 2 1/2 hour, two mile walk through this charming neighborhood that is a residential gateway to Forest Park.
Cost for this narrated walking tour is $20.
